The Syrian schools we have visited have one thing in common, they are in desperate need of Turkish and English books and book cases. If you work in a school, have children with books to spare, or would like to organize a book drive your efforts will be greatly appreciated. Our target age rage is 4-18.
2. Food glorious food!
We have an urgent need in Kayseri (central Anatolia). The school is open to Turkish children in the mornings and then from 14.00 - 20.00 is a Syrian school for 650 students. Many Syrian children are arriving at school without having eaten a thing. We need people and monetary contributions to initiate what will eventually be a self-sustaining cafeteria for the school. We have the building, the host, and even free accommodation for those able to help.
2. Apartment restoration
Working with experienced community groups we have apartment restoration projects in both Istanbul and Kayseri. Unfortunately living conditions for many people is extremely poor. The good news is we can do much to improve living conditions by doing relatively minor work. We’re looking for handy, practical people that can swing a paint brush, patch a crack, or stop a draft! (Volunteers will need to provide their own funding or home improvement supplies).
4. Community supplies
There are a two brilliant community projects in Istanbul that desperately need your support with donations for materials. This can include blankets, clothes (good condition only), bulk supplies of items like lentils, chic peas, nappies, washing powder and cleaning products.
5. Educate, educate and educate
We have a never ending list of kids that need to be placed in school (over 400,000 refugee children in Istanbul with only 20-30% of them currently in school). For between $20-50 USD per month we can get a kid to school! To date we've assistied nearly 20 students get to school and will gladly accept donations for futher help.
